What many Companies are finding out since Google has
updated it’s algorithm to Penguin 2.0 is
that SEO (search engine optimization the process of maximizing the number of
visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the
list of results returned by a search engine) may not be the way of the future.
I am sure after companies have spent millions if not trillions of dollars on
SEO, to only be disappointed by the recent change; where do we go from here?
Most companies are fearful of investing money into an uncertain new media like
Social and Mobile Media Marketing.
First; what is
Penguin 2.0 and how has it changed the way Google ranks its pages? Google’s
chief resource for fighting spam, Matt Cutts, has said that Penguin focused on
penalizing sites that use black-hat techniques and rewarding sites that are
offering a great visitor experience. Translation: if you’ve done dubious
activities such as buying mass links, spamming low quality directory sites with
your links, or paying an intern to leave hundreds of comments on blogs, there’s
a good chance your site was affected. At the same time, smaller businesses that
have engaged in developing quality content, building ethical links, and avoided
sketchy techniques that would yield short-term gains should have received a
boost in the overall search rankings.
Additionally,
Cutts has stated that Penguin 2.0 drilled deeper into websites to look for
spam; analyzing internal pages as opposed to just the homepage of websites.
This was actually a pretty interesting revelation, because it wasn’t previously
known to the SEO community that Penguin 1.0 only analyzed inbound link profiles
of domain homepages. The fact that internal pages are now analyzed means that
black-hat web spam tactics such as manipulative link building to internal pages
won’t escape Google’s ever-seeing eye.
However “Authority
Site’s” are making a huge impact on page rankings and are now ranking even more
quickly than they did ever before. Therefore, if you use these authority sites
as “Para Sites”, they can drive traffic to your “Home Site” for your targeted
keywords in a fairly short period of time (Some as quick as 5 minutes to 3
weeks)
As much as I love to help people better understand how to
market companies efficiently, I don’t want to reveal all of my secrets because
then I would have no more reason for banter. J These sites below are all sites
that reportedly have a very good impact on your rankings.
1. YouTube
2. Amazon (ebooks)
3. Askville.Amazon.com (Similar to Yahoo Answers)
4. Facebook Pages
5. Squidoo (Works well but have cracked down and have
started banning accounts)
6. Meetup.com ($12/month) The group page ranks very
easily
7. LinkedIn (The Company Profile Page)
8. Twitter Profile
9. Tumblr (May be able to pull in RSS feeds)
10. Myspace Account
11. Blogspot
12. BBB.org (This is an authority for Google+ Local
Business Pages)
13. Dailymotion.com (Video site that is less strict than
YouTube)
14. Metacafe.com (Video site that is less strict than
YouTube)
15. Pinterest Profile (Rank Really Well)
16. Yahoo Answers (You can ask the question yourself, and
then write the answer yourself)
17. Itunes Stores
18. Google+ Accounts
19. EvenBrite.com (Similar to Meetup.com)
20. Craigslist.org (Can rank well for local listings.
Downside is that they can be flagged and they expire. Good for short-term
rankings)
21. Ireport.cnn.com (Can create an account as a reporter.
Really easy to rank these pages)
22. Press Releases (These are possibly the best
ParaSites, besides YouTube.)
23. Blog.co.uk (High authority site for the UK market)

visitors) 25. sites.google.com (Another Google Property)
26. slideshare.net

28. Panaramio
29. Flickr
30. WordPress
31. Wikihow
32. Quora
33. Facebook (Hash Tags)
34. Blogger feed
Etc.
Now the question
is; what does a company do to get themselves prepared for a successful
marketing launch utilizing these applications. First you need a person or
company that has diversified talents; not just specializing in one area, but
all or most areas of Public Relations that have the capabilities to develop a
strategy focused on the company’s needs. The days of the old timer saying to
you, “we rely only on word of mouth and were doing just great.” Don’t worry
about them because if they knew anything about business or even one iota of
marketing they would know that they have to take pride in their appearance and
in today’s day and age that is the Internet 80-90% of the time. The other is
how a company presents itself Business to consumer or business to business.
(Excuse the side tangent I will save this for another entry). Now, when you use
your problem solving skills, and already knowing that you have to make a big
impact to generate a following; what is the first priority? You will need to
find someone with a full working knowledge of Social Media, Basic Design
Knowledge, Writing Skills, and Blogging Capabilities. If you can find a
talented writer the better off you are. Based upon the fact that Google’s
Penguin 2.0 is an Algorithmic pattern (a process or set of rules to be followed
in calculations or other problem-solving operations, esp. by a computer). It is
a numbers game in the sense that you are going to see better results by putting
out more to get back more (in laymen’s terms). However; you must have original
and creative content and lots of it! Then comes the interactivity part and for
those of you that are on Facebook and other Social Networks you may see how
people post pictures and other content with quotes, tags, and other unique
content to capture someone’s attention and persuade them to spread the word.
Please Google subject heading and you can follow my steps or if you still
haven’t a clue you can contact Public Relations Done Right and we can help you
for a reasonable rate or teach you to do it for yourself.
Until next time…
