How SEO has changed since Penguin 2.0 by Peter Dimaira of Public Relations Done Right

What many Companies are finding out since Google has updated it’s algorithm to Penguin 2.0  is that SEO (search engine optimization the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine) may not be the way of the future. I am sure after companies have spent millions if not trillions of dollars on SEO, to only be disappointed by the recent change; where do we go from here? Most companies are fearful of investing money into an uncertain new media like Social and Mobile Media Marketing.

First; what is Penguin 2.0 and how has it changed the way Google ranks its pages? Google’s chief resource for fighting spam, Matt Cutts, has said that Penguin focused on penalizing sites that use black-hat techniques and rewarding sites that are offering a great visitor experience. Translation: if you’ve done dubious activities such as buying mass links, spamming low quality directory sites with your links, or paying an intern to leave hundreds of comments on blogs, there’s a good chance your site was affected. At the same time, smaller businesses that have engaged in developing quality content, building ethical links, and avoided sketchy techniques that would yield short-term gains should have received a boost in the overall search rankings.

Additionally, Cutts has stated that Penguin 2.0 drilled deeper into websites to look for spam; analyzing internal pages as opposed to just the homepage of websites. This was actually a pretty interesting revelation, because it wasn’t previously known to the SEO community that Penguin 1.0 only analyzed inbound link profiles of domain homepages. The fact that internal pages are now analyzed means that black-hat web spam tactics such as manipulative link building to internal pages won’t escape Google’s ever-seeing eye.

However “Authority Site’s” are making a huge impact on page rankings and are now ranking even more quickly than they did ever before. Therefore, if you use these authority sites as “Para Sites”, they can drive traffic to your “Home Site” for your targeted keywords in a fairly short period of time (Some as quick as 5 minutes to 3 weeks)

As much as I love to help people better understand how to market companies efficiently, I don’t want to reveal all of my secrets because then I would have no more reason for banter. J These sites below are all sites that reportedly have a very good impact on your rankings.

1. YouTube

2. Amazon (ebooks)

3. Askville.Amazon.com (Similar to Yahoo Answers)

4. Facebook Pages

5. Squidoo (Works well but have cracked down and have started banning accounts)

6. Meetup.com ($12/month) The group page ranks very easily

7. LinkedIn (The Company Profile Page)

8. Twitter Profile

9. Tumblr (May be able to pull in RSS feeds)

10. Myspace Account

11. Blogspot

12. BBB.org (This is an authority for Google+ Local Business Pages)

13. Dailymotion.com (Video site that is less strict than YouTube)

14. Metacafe.com (Video site that is less strict than YouTube)

15. Pinterest Profile (Rank Really Well)

16. Yahoo Answers (You can ask the question yourself, and then write the answer yourself)

17. Itunes Stores

18. Google+ Accounts

19. EvenBrite.com (Similar to Meetup.com)

20. Craigslist.org (Can rank well for local listings. Downside is that they can be flagged and they expire. Good for short-term rankings)

21. Ireport.cnn.com (Can create an account as a reporter. Really easy to rank these pages)

22. Press Releases (These are possibly the best ParaSites, besides YouTube.)

23. Blog.co.uk (High authority site for the UK market)

24. Yelp.com (THE BEST For Local Businesses and mobile visitors) 25. sites.google.com (Another Google Property)

26. slideshare.net

27. Photobucket

28. Panaramio

29. Flickr

30. WordPress

31. Wikihow

32. Quora

33. Facebook (Hash Tags)

34. Blogger feed Etc.

Now the question is; what does a company do to get themselves prepared for a successful marketing launch utilizing these applications. First you need a person or company that has diversified talents; not just specializing in one area, but all or most areas of Public Relations that have the capabilities to develop a strategy focused on the company’s needs. The days of the old timer saying to you, “we rely only on word of mouth and were doing just great.” Don’t worry about them because if they knew anything about business or even one iota of marketing they would know that they have to take pride in their appearance and in today’s day and age that is the Internet 80-90% of the time. The other is how a company presents itself Business to consumer or business to business. (Excuse the side tangent I will save this for another entry). Now, when you use your problem solving skills, and already knowing that you have to make a big impact to generate a following; what is the first priority? You will need to find someone with a full working knowledge of Social Media, Basic Design Knowledge, Writing Skills, and Blogging Capabilities. If you can find a talented writer the better off you are. Based upon the fact that Google’s Penguin 2.0 is an Algorithmic pattern (a process or set of rules to be followed in calculations or other problem-solving operations, esp. by a computer). It is a numbers game in the sense that you are going to see better results by putting out more to get back more (in laymen’s terms). However; you must have original and creative content and lots of it! Then comes the interactivity part and for those of you that are on Facebook and other Social Networks you may see how people post pictures and other content with quotes, tags, and other unique content to capture someone’s attention and persuade them to spread the word. Please Google subject heading and you can follow my steps or if you still haven’t a clue you can contact Public Relations Done Right and we can help you for a reasonable rate or teach you to do it for yourself.

Until next time…

A basic SEO Explanation from Peter @ PRDR South Florida Online Marketing for Small Companies

New to SEO? Need to polish up your knowledge? The Beginner's Guide to SEO has been read over 1 million times and provides comprehensive information you need to get on the road to professional quality SEO. Search engines have two major functions - crawling & building an index, and providing answers by calculating relevancy & serving results. Imagine the World Wide Web as a network of stops in a big city subway system. Each stop is its own unique document (usually a web page, but sometimes a PDF, JPG or other file). The search engines need a way to “crawl” the entire city and find all the stops along the way, so they use the best path available – links. Crawling and Indexing Crawling and indexing the billions of documents, pages, files, news, videos and media on the world wide web. Providing Answers Providing answers to user queries, most frequently through lists of relevant pages, through retrieval and rankings. “The link structure of the web serves to bind all of the pages together.” Through links, search engines’ automated robots, called “crawlers,” or “spiders” can reach the many billions of interconnected documents. Once the engines find these pages, they next decipher the code from them and store selected pieces in massive hard drives, to be recalled later when needed for a search query. To accomplish the monumental task of holding billions of pages that can be accessed in a fraction of a second, the search engines have constructed datacenters all over the world. These monstrous storage facilities hold thousands of machines processing large quantities of information. After all, when a person performs a search at any of the major engines, they demand results instantaneously – even a 1 or 2 second delay can cause dissatisfaction, so the engines work hard to provide answers as fast as possible. Search engines are answer machines. When a person looks for something online, it requires the search engines to scour their corpus of billions of documents and do two things – first, return only those results that are relevant or useful to the searcher’s query, and second, rank those results in order of perceived usefulness. It is both “relevance” and “importance” that the process of SEO is meant to influence. To a search engine, relevance means more than simply finding a page with the right words. In the early days of the web, search engines didn’t go much further than this simplistic step, and their results suffered as a consequence. Thus, through evolution, smart engineers at the engines devised better ways to find valuable results that searchers would appreciate and enjoy. Today, 100s of factors influence relevance, many of which we’ll discuss throughout this guide. How Do Search Engines Determine Importance? Currently, the major engines typically interpret importance as popularity – the more popular a site, page or document, the more valuable the information contained therein must be. This assumption has proven fairly successful in practice, as the engines have continued to increase users’ satisfaction by using metrics that interpret popularity. Popularity and relevance aren’t determined manually. Instead, the engines craft careful, mathematical equations – algorithms – to sort the wheat from the chaff and to then rank the wheat in order of tastiness (or however it is that farmers determine wheat’s value). These algorithms are often comprised of hundreds of components. In the search marketing field, we often refer to them as “ranking factors” Moz crafted a resource specifically on this subject – Search Engine Ranking Factors. Googlers recommend the following to get better rankings in their search engine: Make pages primarily for users, not for search engines. Don't deceive your users or present different content to search engines than you display to users, which is commonly referred to as cloaking. Make a site with a clear hierarchy and text links. Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link. Create a useful, information-rich site, and write pages that clearly and accurately describe your content. Make sure that your

Peter Dimaira of Public Relations Done Right sits with member of press

My background is in Marketing and sales mostly. I started my first business when I was 12 and always profited on many of my ventures after that. I went to school for musical engineering when I was 22 and my plan was to start my own recording company, but I realized the industry was a little to party intensive and I lost interest. I became interested in marketing more and more when I was introduced to my first business partner 4 years ago who had 15 years of experience in the online marketing industry with a portfolio of known brand names like Bank of America, Citi Bank, Publix, etc..  He taught me how to buy and sell domain names and design in HTML. Once I realized I could do this my fingers went running wild with processes of elimination through online marketing and Search Engine Optimization. (Mostly White Hat but some Black Hat SEO) Since I first met my partner I have enrolled in school to get my bachelors in Graphic Design and Corporate Brand Marketing and I am due to finish in 2014.

Reporter:    What kind of expertise do you have?

Oh.. Where should I start? I have an associate’s degree in Communications and I am a certified Audio Engineer with 13+ years in the sales and marketing arena. I have Executive Produced a Regional Television Show and Associate Produced a National Television Show. I have Video Production, Television Production, and Brand Recognition experience. I can design websites, perform Search Engine Optimization Services, and Logo/Layout Design.  I have experience with Start Up Business Opportunities and Company Evaluations to increase profitability. I approach the marketing arena like I’m Mike Tyson.

Reporter:    How can you manage to accomplish everything PRDR has to offer?

PublicRelationsdoneRight.com is the brain child of Peter Dimaira and Peter Welch, two of the finest minds in internet marketing. The fact of the matter is that we can’t do everything, but we know just about every nook and cranny of the marketing world and most importantly the people in it. Our primary focus is really the small business because with companies like Wal-Mart and other corporate entities moving into small town America it’s leaving the Mom & Pops around the country scramming for morsels.  In my opinion it is not the economy and I will tell you why… It’s because the world is changing to a mobile technology world, where digital coupons, Smart phone apps, and other unique ways have been created to catch the customers’ eye. The problem is most business owners don’t know how to utilize the current avenues that big corporate companies pay people like me and my partner to utilize. We want to teach them how to market themselves, enough to increase their profits by 20-40%.

Reporter:    Why is SEO important to you?

I really love SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and I’ll tell you why…

SEO is misinterpreted and misrepresented by most companies that offer it because most businesses like Attorneys, Law Firms  and many other companies  think that being on the first page is most important, while I feel that Public Relations is most important. Studies and research show that approximately 80% of people use Google for their searches, but 70% don’t go past the first page.  Now you would thing that based on those numbers it is important for you to be on the first page but the only thing that defines a first page listing are hits to that listing. Subsections or backlinks are your first step, but with Google changing its parameters recently now you can build sub sections off of descriptions built into the website description. What I am saying is key phrases and words are a big part in what will put you out there for people to find you. For Example: Instead of key wording [Palm Beach lawyers] you can key word [The Best Lawyer in Palm Beach] and put a greater definition to the searchers results. Now if you are putting out P.R. everywhere on the net to varieties of demographics, it will give you more than just a first page listing because most potential customers are looking for quality service and if that is not provided then the internet can turn into a company’s worst enemy due to forums and blogs and their lack of structure.

This is why Public Relations Done Right offers reputation management because most business owners are too busy to make everyone happy, but what can you do when they start slandering the companies name online and degrading your company? “Public Relations Gorilla Internet Marketing” first we find all the key words used then we drown them out with PR everywhere.

Reporter:    What type of web design do you prefer?

I was just recently introduced to Photoshop/Dreamweaver and although I like the programs a lot, I don’t think they are the best for Google ranking

Reporter:    What is your favorite aspect of Marketing?

Delivering what I promise especially in the beginning when the client looks at me like I’m crazy and then they realize I really am but a savant in regards to marketing.  I am quoting a Television Producer in that last remark and I firmly believe I am talented, but always could learn more. I work and rub shoulders with some of the most talented people most will ever know and I just want to “bridge the gap” between them and the client.

Reporter:    What other projects are you working on?

I am in the middle of writing a book that can save the average person 10,000 dollars over the course of one year.  I am starting a Coaching Network and Directories to go with it. I have purchased a few domain names that I feel have some value. On a side note: It’s not always what you can take from the table, but what you can replace for something better.”

Reporter:    Are you open to investors approaching you?

Sure, they don’t have to worry about me nowadays.

My ideas will be expensive.

Reporter:    What are your objectives for these businesses?

I want to help, to heal, to learn and teach. I just want to bring something to the table that can help people, no matter what.

Reporter:    What are some tips you can provide to small to medium sized businesses?

If you don’t want to pay for the service then you should pay for the lesson.

Peter Dimaira of Public Relations Done Right Talks Marketing Strategies

Peter Dimaira talks Marketing Strategies for small businesses and with Penguin 2.0 better localized search results narrowing keywords to make it more easily structured to expand searches by Local of website.

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep. 1, 2013 - ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, N.J. -- Public Relations Done Right is not only limited to Search Engine Optimization. We are marketing experts with a wide array of talents and talent pools through networking. Our Public Relations Company is not focused on the competition, because the competition isn’t focused on us. We specialize in Video Production as well, which any SEO Specialist would know that proper following of Google’s Guide Lines with video is a very good ingredient for a websites or businesses SEO progress but it is only a small slice of the whole pie.  The small businesses that are just trying to make a buck and feed their families are being misled by companies telling them that they are going to put them on first page of Google.  Mobile Optimization is the key to a local company’s success.  That can only be done by someone very talented like myself and many others I am sure, but how do we bridge the gap between the company that talks it and the company that walks it? The key is find a local specialist or find a small company that you know there is guarantee of being able to communicate with the person doing the work for you.

I personally have had the pleasure of speaking with many SEO Companies over the last few months that are filled with talented individuals who can perform SEO but when asked about mobile results for their clients, they shied away from the question. At the end of the day I Peter Dimaira am a journalist, writer, producer, and Marketing Specialist. I think four moves ahead and have developed viral video and social media strategies that have made companies increase their revenue by 30-60%. With the way the internet is presently, you have to think outside the box to gain notoriety within flooded markets.

Public Relations Done Right also offers coaching services at an affordable hourly rate in which case you are guaranteed to learn ways to market yourself or your company and give you the optimized results you are looking for.  We are available by email or by phone 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We are happy to provide a free consultation to anyone looking to help themselves or boost their companies’ profits.

Peter Welch with “Public Relations Done Right” Is an SEO expert

An SEO Expert is responsible for understanding the various algorithms of the search engines and to design and or alter web pages based on the constantly updated standards of Google, Yahoo, Bing, as well as many other major search engines. We do this so that our clients can feel confident that users will find them on the first page of any given key-word search.
The biggest challenge in being an SEO Expert is competing against each other for positioning on the Internet. Everyone wants to be number one, so it’s actually a good thing that search engines are now weighing in additional criteria outside of just quality content. Imagine what would happen if every company had an SEO Expert, and every page was optimized exactly the same, following the most current standard for search engine optimization.
So we are proactive in helping our clients secure quality incoming links, because link development is an important responsibility of an SEO Expert. We understand the value of providing the most relevant search result, creating pages users want to link to, and most of all the value of our integrity to what we do. Even though we compete against each other, you’ll still find us in social communities, collaborating and sharing ideas. Okay, most of the time our dialog is more of an argument driven by ego. But how can you call yourself an Expert in any field without some level of ego? We are proud of our search engine rankings, and strive to provide better stickiness in the results pages by pinging RSS readers, syndicating keyword-rich content, and building relationships that result in more links.
Affiliations and networking play a critical part in being an SEO Expert. It’s our affiliates who post links for us and our network for which we solicit our services. Most of the time we have to explain what SEO is multiple times to our clients, and frequently we SEO Experts give away our strategies in order to prove that we know our way around the world of SEO. But in the end, it’s our savvy that helps us drive incredible amounts of traffic to our sites and our clients’ sites.
Any SEO Expert you speak with should have some piece of literature they wrote themselves on the topic of SEO. They should provide you with a portfolio of sites and keywords targeted by each to prove that they can do the same for you. Both of these contingencies help define what each SEO Expert considers to be their SEO Best Practices, all of which should be ethical strategies for achieving optimal ranking in the search engines.
  • All      Pages Should Conform with W3C Standards
  • Keyword      Density is Never Abusive
  • Always      Include: robots.txt, sitemap.xml, & Privacy Policies
  • Keywords      are Prominent in the Title, META tags, & Headings
  • ALT      Tags and Title Tags are Not Forgotten
  • Nomenclature      is Fundamental to Being Indexed
SEO Expert Code of Ethics
Without guidelines we have SEO chaos. By adhering to these guidelines, we mold them into principles; and principles are unbreakable. Being an SEO Expert means never spamming the search engines. It means when we optimize a web page for indexing, we do so understanding that the page being indexed is actually useful to those who find and read it.
If we go beyond just on-page SEO, and support our clients with link building strategy, we do so understanding that link farms and unrelated sites can get our clients penalized. “Black Hat” SEO will discredit our ability to get our clients indexed the natural or organic way. We are committed to being ethical and practical in our methodologies.
As a leading SEO authority, my team is fully staffed with SEO Experts, Link Building Professionals, and now a Google AdWords Experts ready to handle PPC audits and bid optimization. Standard SEO/SEM account management typically includes the following:
  • Over the Phone Consultations
  • Page-Level SEO Analysis (if applicable)
  • Site-Level Web Crawler-Friendliness
  • Competitor Strategy Discovery
  • Competitor Back Link & Industry      Analysis
  • Baseline Search Engine Ranking Reports
  • Discovery of the “Best      Keywords” to Target
  • SEO Site Architecture / Framework      Recommendations
  • Additional Ranking Reports (Post-Launch)
Visit our SEO Expert Blog to keep up-to-date with what’s new in SEO. It’s, where our team of SEO Experts help all types of businesses rank higher in the search results with practices used by Fortune 100 companies, SMB’s, and local businesses.

What is good PR?

  1. Good PR is telling the client what they need to hear instead of what they want to hear.  Good PR recognizes that the best “PR strategy” needs to be followed-up with the client’s good products/services or else it’s all a vain and wasted effort that harms everyone’s reputation.
  2. Good PR is not just about the over-glorified launch.  Good PR helps build and sustain a groundswell of brand support — incrementally changing consumer behaviors via a steady stream of relevant and candid communication to both “media” and “consumers.”
  3. Good PR celebrates the client’s customers in an inclusive, non-exploitive way.  And, good PR welcomes the input of “neutrals” and especially “critics,” and adapts strategy accordingly.
  4. Good PR is proactive in idea generation and responsive in a crisis.  Good PR finds the balance.
  5. Good PR is measurable.  (And yet also hard to measure, since most clients want to measure different things.)
  6. Good PR leverages pre-existing relationships with influential people — relationships built on trust and credibility earned over years of service.
  7. Good PR doesn’t need to know Larry Ellison or Kevin Rose or anyone in particular in the media, either.  Even though such relationships can come in handy, good PR almost always “gets ink” because a good story has been well-told to the right people.

These “7 Elements of Good PR” may seem simplistic and high-falutin’, yet they sum up 17 years’ worth of hard lessons in this industry.  PR is hard work, strategic work, under promoted and infinitely interesting work — hard to describe or appreciate until you’re in the trenches.

If you’ve been in these trenches — think carefully — what am I missing?

I completely agree with Todd; I speak with Public Relations and Corporate Communications people all the time and they always misrepresent the companies they work for, some of which are large fortune 500 corporations. It is one of my pet peeves to speak to a man or woman in public relations and has them act rude to a member of the media or press. For me; coming from a Reputation Management back ground with Knowledge of global branding, I had become fed up and so I created Public Relations Done Right due to a major resentment towards the way external and internal Public Relations people underestimate and undervalue the relationship they could build from treating a person from the media or press with a little more respect and appreciation for their inquiry to their company.

Public Relations Done Right is a full service PR Firm based out of Boca Raton with offices in Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and South Beach Miami. The two Gentlemen behind the curtain Peter Dimaira and Peter Welch; Peter Dimaira with a Musical Engineering background and a BFA in Graphic Design/Brand Awareness though online mediums such as search engine optimization, Blogging, Web Design, and Social Media. Peter Welch has an extensive background in Public Relations with over a decade of experience in being a press representative for such people as members of The House Committee, Members of the Senate, and dignitaries from foreign countries. They both bring to the table worlds of experience in Marketing and Brand Management.
